This week was only a three day week due to Monday: Columbus Day and Tuesday was Teacher Work Day. I am sure the students enjoyed having a four day weekend.
Also on Wednesday, the school conducted PSAT testing and my teacher's classes were moved and Knight Time was absorbed into the second and third period classes. During 3rd period we took the students to the computer lab to work on assessments. I helped the students create an account and login to our class in the program. Unfortunately, the program continuously lagged and it took sometime to get it to work.
Today, Dr. Hogan; who is my Classroom management professor and adviser visited my 4th period class for the field placement observation. I made Dr. Hogan an observation packet that included: my lesson plan, the script for the lesson.
For my lesson I used a scripted Math assessment: Transforming 2D Figures. I was able to work with the 5th period class on this assessment last week so I was prepared to conduct my lesson this week.
For the lesson I put the class of five (5) students into small groups (one group of 2 and one group of 3). I gave the instructions for the assessment and I walked around to monitor their progress and work.
I modified the class lesson with extended time so they could work on the cards without rushing.
All in all: I was pretty nervous during my lesson, I felt like I missed something during the directions. The students responded well to my instructions. The class worked hard on the activity with little redirection from me. I continued to monitor the class' progress by walking around although one student wanted me to "help him". I could not give them any help because the activity was a state-wide assessment. I feel that with a little more practice and a better understanding of the subject (Algebra) I will do better in the future.
