My Teaching Philosophy:
I believe that every child, although unique, needs a secure, caring, and stimulating environment to grow emotionally, intellectually, and socially. It will be my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invite a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe to be a foundation for learning: allowing for creative thought, respect of others, and the desire to learn. I encourage my students and build their confidence to aid in their success.
Education is as unique and individualized as the student who enters the classroom. Some learn more than others and in different ways than their peers. I also believe that as an educator, we have to remember that their needs change throughout the course of the school year. I like to build a rapport with my students – getting to know their interests – a great motivational tool. I enjoy mentoring my students by being a positive role model, setting high expectations of goals, demonstrating fairness and consistency in the classroom. I believe in giving every student the educational and social tools to succeed to their fullest potential.
I differentiate my lessons as well as the reward system because not everyone responds to the same thing. I incorporate manipulatives in my lessons but I also implement real-world examples to show how to apply things the students have learned. I like using stations when I can to stimulate movement and it is fun. I think it’s okay to make a complete fool of yourself if it engages the students to learn, want to learn or to at least come to your classroom. I believe in values and manners, encouraging students to use “thank you and you’re welcome” to not only myself but to each other.
My passion in teaching and desire to make a difference in my students’ education has something to do with my philosophy of disciplining them in my classroom. I base my teaching on mutual respect and honesty.
I will have simple and clear rules for students to follow with set expectations of each one. Every day, I will engage them on task productively as well as challenging their mind simultaneously. The rules will be posted and reviewed when needed. I believe in positive reinforcement rather than negative reinforcement because it is easier to hear Yes than NO. I reward positive behavior but show there are consequences to bad behavior.
